Brazilian Guitarist Welson Tremura

Welson TremuraDr. Welson Tremura permanently joined the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Florida in 2002 as a musician and educator who is well-versed in Brazilian Jazz, classical, and vocal music as well as traditional European classical forms.  Tremura has released two feature recordings and has participated on recordings with renowned musical artists in Brazil as well as in the United States.  He has performed extensively throughout Brazil, North America, and Europe including the International Double Reed Convention, Festival de Inverno, the Nashville Opry Theatre Christmas Concert with Barbara Mandrel, and the American Cancer Society Benefit Concert with Bernadette Peters.  For an expanded biography, click here.

Cellist Steven Thomas

Steven ThomasDr. Steven Thomas brings to the University of Florida an unusually vast wealth of performing experience.  A top prize-winner in the Villa-Lobos (Rio) and Bach (Washington) International Cello Competitions, as well as the Hudson Valley and Charleston Competitions, Dr. Thomas has appeared as soloist with orchestras in North and South America and throughout Europe.  Steven Thomas has served as the Principal Cellist of several symphony and chamber orchestras, and has given over 1,500 concerts in that role in the last 25 years.  Click here for an expanded biography.

"No Southern Accent"

“No Southern Accent” is the University of Florida’s one and only co-ed a cappella group. Formed in 2001, NSA has grown into an amazing performance group, always ready to wow an audience. Since then, the group has performed at countless school functions, including Talent Night, Gator Growl, Dance Marathon Relay for Life, and Soul Fest! No Southern Accent is completely student run and is a recognized student organization on campus. The group is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students from all different majors and backgrounds, but its members are united by their mutual passion for music.
